The Sangiovese grape grows particularly well here at Mallaluka. It produces lovely, single-variety wines, but it also blends beautifully with the "classic" varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, and we have done this with this wine. Equal parts of each and matured for about 9 months in a mixture of French and American oak barriques.
The result is a satisfying, complex medium-bodied wine that drinks beautifully by itself, but is a perfect match with a host of different foods. The nose is dominated by mint, spice and cherries, as you would expect from these three grape varieties. These flavours combine with cedary oak and a hint of liquorice on the palate, and the finish is savoury and dry with clean fruit tannins.
We believe strongly in the future of this wine and consider it to be our flagship.
